A pilgrim’s life in France on the Via Lemovicensis route.

There are four main pilgrim paths in France, heading to Spain. I have done the Via Podensis, from Geneva, Switzerland through Le-Puy-en-Velay to Spain. These routes merge to use the same pass going over the Pyrenees, on the road built by Julius Caesar and also taken by Napoleon. But I plan to turn north at the foot of the Pyrenees and walk to the coast of Spain. Because I have already been over that pass three times and it’s super hot in Spain now.

Walking from Vezelay to Nevers to see the INTACT remains of Bernadette of Lourdes. After the miracle of Lourdes, she was a nun here. I was privileged to stay in what had been the nuns cells, or rooms. Refurbished, fortunately. 30 Euros a night with breakfast.

Walking through France, still. Every day is different:, the trail, the people, the lodging, the food. Lovely

I try not to take lots of photos and just walk, but sometimes i cannot resist.

Walking into Joigny, France

This couple hosted me on their lovely home. Since there is little pilgrim accommodation, through a church program, people sign up to host pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compestello, Spain. They warmly welcomed me, washed my clothes, gave me a tour of the town, fed me a wonderful home-cooked dinner and sent me off after a breakfast of bread, butter, homemade jams, coffee. The usual breakfast here.

My selectchbook of walking in France, 2024. Day 1 to 15.

Here is my art kit. The plastic box I put water in, the sketchbook is 4×6 inches, the color sheets are lightweight and I also have a tiny paint brush. Easy to put in a clear plastic baggie.

Walking right out of Paris.
