California Coastal Trail

Salt manufacturing, view from the train.

I took the train from Eugene to Los Angeles to walk the California Coast trail. It is mostly on the beach. The first day I made good time, 12 miles in 7 hours! There were many sights to photograph, a nap to take, and the tide had to go out so I could get to the beach. It was a good pace.

The Kelpies, along the canal near Edinburgh, Scotland.

My friend in Edinburgh, whom I met in the Galápagos Islands last year, drove me out to see these statutes. They are a tribute to the working horses of the canal. A kelpie was a spirit and it was believed to have settled into this horse. The changing light on them is fabulous.

I am hiking the West Highland Way in Scotland. Glorious fall colors and great hiking.

These are wild goats. Two young males were fighting on the trail in front of us. Probably just plying, but it was dramatic and fun to see.
